Identity V Shipping Olympics
A Mixed Media, Collaborative Fanwork Challenge!
The IDV shipping olympics is a challenge event created to showcase the creativity of the Identity V fandom. It is not about proving which ship is the best, nor is it about creating drama. It is about creating and supporting content for the ships and characters we love, showcasing and introducing that content to a wider audience, and meeting fellow fans of identity V!

ABOUT
What is a shipping olympics? How does it work?
Put simply, a shipping olympics is an event that runs for three rounds over the course of two months. People form teams based on their favorite ships and create content based around the prompts. This content can be anything - Art, Fic, Playlists, Videos, Fan-games. Anything that fits the realm of the prompt goes, and so long as it’s been created within the given time-frame, you’re good as gold! Each round has a variety of themes, and ideally lasts for 10 days, with 7 days between those ten days to give the audience time to vote, and creators time to rest. During those 7 days, the audience and moderators have the chance to participate in “Bonus rounds”, competing against the ship teams to earn their own more points by creating, commenting, and voting for their favorite works!
(Important note: This is one of the many things subject to change depending on the feedback we receive on our interest check. The timeframe is likely to widen, if anything)Remember not to break your back over this. The name of the game is to have fun, and no one expects a new da vinci painting in ten-days.How do I participate?
There are two main ways to participate in the IDVSO: as a creator on a ship team, OR as part of our audience.
Ship Teams will be composed of 3-5 creators, working together to represent one ship. They will create fanworks, in any medium, during the three main ship rounds, focused on their one ship of choice. The audience and other ship teams will vote on works each round, and ship teams have a chance to earn points based on the number of votes they receive. The goal of the ship teams are to score the most points in the event by creating and commenting on fanworks, and ultimately bring home gold for their team!
Audience members include anyone who signs up for the event but who does not want to commit to being on a ship team, or who just wants to enjoy the fanworks created. Official IDVSO audience members will have the opportunity to vote in the main rounds, as well as to submit their own works for any ships in the bonus rounds. By commenting on the works in the event and submitting their own work for the bonus round, the audience can also score points (and maybe even win the whole thing). What if I ship a rarepair, and can't find other people who want to team?
In addition to the single ship teams, we will also have a team rarepair, which will allow creators for any ship to participate in the main rounds under the rare pair banner. You can still have the full experience of working with a ship team in the event even if you're the only guy that ships your favorite thing. (And hey, maybe you can sell your teammates on your little guys, too!)

IDV SO Round Structure
Main Rounds
There will be three main rounds. This is how each round will go:Prompts and themes released
People who have signed up for a ship-team flex their creative energies and produce fills for the prompt. Everyone on the team creates something different.
The team votes amongst themselves on ONE fill to submit
The team-captain submits the chosen fill before deadline
The moderators
Everybody votes!Voting will go on until the next rounds voting starts! Results of each round are going to be hidden until that time as well. This should give people ample time to look through and vote for everything created for each round.
Posting all the works your team created is not only allowed, but encouraged. While only one may be showcased for voting, the name of the game is to create! Likewise, collaborations between users is allowed and encouraged. Work with your team! Have fun! Create something you enjoy.Bonus Rounds
Bonus rounds are the audience's time to shine. They’re mini-prompts, purposefully created with a smaller barrier to entry. These will not be voted on, and the points earned in these rounds are by submission, rather than by vote. You can create for any pairing, in support of any pairing, and earn points for the audience team! The catch? Only the audience and moderators can earn points in this round. Sure, ship teams can fulfill the prompts if it tickles their fancy. But it won’t get their team any extra points. In a way, the audience is competing against the ship team just as much as the ship teams are competing against each other. Are you going to let the creators beat you? No! Get commenting and creating!People on teams can create for bonus round prompts should they inspire you, however this will not gain your team any extra points!Final Collaborative round
The final round is focused on team collaboration. The hope for this round is that everyone pitches into the final product in some way, whether it be part of the brain storming process, organizing ideas, or actively creating an asset for it. The hope for this round is something that involves at least two separate mediums! A comic with a few pages? A fanfic that has background music and fanart placed throughout it? A small fangame? A fanfic with branching paths? Think about how you can bring everyone's talents together to create something incredible!
We understand people get busy, however. So long as everyone on the team is happy with your participation, we’re happy with your product! Communicate with your team. Only one entry gets created this round, so come and knock your heads together.

Rules
Our rules are divided into three sections: Team structure and limitations, Posting guidelines, and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Fandom Wank policy. This section is long, and not entirely a fun read. However, in a fandom as notorious and volatile as the IDV fandom can be, the need for strict behavior parameters is undeniable. We may seem a bit harsh in some parts of this, but we feel it is important to set strict boundaries in events that gather people from all walks of the fandom. Not reading the rules is not an excuse for breaking them. We are working heavily on a trust system here.Likewise, and perhaps a bit more fun, this page contains rules and regulations regarding what pairings will be allowed within the project. Please read that carefully, and consider what ship you may want to create content for while doing so!(This page may be difficult to read on mobile due to its length. It will load best on a desktop device.)
Team Structure and Limitations
Teams are the lifeblood of this tournament. They’re going to be the people you’re working with and talking to for the next two months. There will be a cap to the amount of people allowed on each team, as well as a required amount of people to make a team.It would be unfair to make a team of 2 people go up against a team of 10 people! This cap will be decided by the amount of feedback we got within the interest check. Requiring teams to be made up of 5 people with a cap of 12 is more feasible if there are 100 people interested in participating, rather than 50. Right now, we are thinking 2 people are required to make a team, and 5 people at a cap.
This might be changed!Moderators -
The moderators are the ones running this event. They’re the one’s that keep track of scores and teams, the ones people should come to for questions and concerns. Our list of moderators can be found hereGiven the amount of work that will be required to keep this event running, the moderators of the event have decided to take a step back from the creation process of the main rounds.
…. But no one said anything about bonus rounds.
Moderators have full permission to create content that fits the themes of the bonus rounds. The points for the moderator team work similarly to the audience points, as it goes by submission and by vote.Hunters - The Team-Captains
The Hunter’s are our team captains. They’re the head of the team, the one that brings and holds everyone together. There are some responsibilities that come with being The Hunter, so please consider them carefully before considering if it is a position that you want.Hunters are responsible for:-Creating the teams social media pages (Twitter will be required, everything else is optional)
Submitting each rounds final entry
-Organizing any collaboration required for the round
Maintaining order and peace for a team, to an extent (We don’t expect you to dish out punishments!)
-Contacting moderators for the team, should the need arise. For the most part, the Hunter role is based on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once your status as team-captain is confirmed, we’ll create a group chat for your team within the groups main discord, and give you the role giving you access to the Hunter group chat.Survivors - The teammates
Survivors are the bread and the butter of this event. They’re the ones that make up the ship teams, the participants of the main event.Like the hunters, participation on a team comes on a first-come-first-serve basis! Enter this event with that in mind - You might not get put on your first choice of team, especially if you apply too late and all the slots for that team are filled up.We will work with you as best we can to get you on a team that is to your liking, however if you’re very particular about your interest in a ship and don’t get placed on the team you like in time, we recommend joining as an audience member in our Detective role, which will allow you to create for it during the bonus rounds.
There are two special teams for the IDV shipping olympicsTeam Nightingale - Our bonafide rare pair team.
If you want to make content for a ship that you feel you might not be able to create a team for, we have a team specifically for rare-pair ships that may be worth your time and consideration. This team will participate in the tournament as normal, with no cap to the amount of people allowed on the team. The only two requirements for this team areThey must submit a new pairing for every round.
The pairing they submit cannot, under any circumstances, be one that already has a teamDear Detectives - Our audience team! This team is made for those who are only here to observe the event in and vote. To vote in this event, you MUST be part of this team. So please sign up sooner rather than later! The audience can, and is encouraged to, participate in bonus rounds. They earn votes by submission and voting basis.Just as much as the ship teams are competing against the other ship teams, they’re competing against the audience as well. There’s a very real chance of the audience gaining more points then the ship team, if they work very hard to support the creators in the tournament.===Unfortunately, given the size of IDV’s cast, we must put down some limitations as to what we will be allowing in the tournament. Please read carefully before considering if you are interested in joining. We will not be accepting ship-teams for ships containing NPC Characters.
(Example: Eli/Gertrude, Miles/Michiko, Qi Shiyi/Tang Si, Herman/Alva, ect…)
At the time of writing this, there are almost 70 playable characters within IDV. We have to put some limitations on what ships we can accept, and this seemed like the most reasonable place to start.
We may consider a bonus round prompt where the focus is the backstory of the characters within the ship. And, should your team choose to do so, they can focus on the way these characters impacted their current relationship. We will not be accepting romantic relationships for Axe Boy and “Little Girl”.
Self explanatory. No romance for the children.
However, If you want to do an entire team based around the platonic relationship and interactions between Axe Boy and everyone in the manor and you can find enough people to get on board with you, we will support you fully. We will be allowing ships like AlvaLuca, EmmaEmily, "Orpheus"/Alice, JackNaib, and Joscarl into the event. Likewise, we believe Nightwatch is an adult and will allow him to be treated as such.
We will be standing firm on this. If you are not comfortable with that, you do not have to support or participate within this event. We even encourage you to create your own, and help further encourage the creation of content you would like to see! However, this event is meant to showcase the full extent of the IDV fandoms' creativity and passion, and leaving out an entire category of ships between playable characters would be as ridiculous as it is miserable. We will not be separating ships based on dynamic
We know the distinction between JosCarl and AesJoseph is very important to some people, but unfortunately, IDV is a game with almost 70 characters. If we allowed a team for every combination of character pairing twice, it would get out of hand incredibly fast!
Communicate with your team. Come together and decide a dynamic together. Be civil, be kind.
Likewise…We will not be allowing platonic dynamic teams that already have romantic ones.
We will not be allowing, for example, Edgar/Vera AND Edgar&Vera. A relationship is a relationship, no matter how you cut it. If you want to explore the Edgar&Vera dynamic, join team Edgar/Vera.
However, we will be allowing platonic teams for groups of characters. If you can find enough people for Burke&Tracy&Luca, we will support you full heartedly, as it is unlikely anyone will be exploring that group in a romantic context. We WILL be allowing Poly Ships into the event
If you can find enough people to join team Weepy/Orpheus/Luchino, then by all means! More power to you. We will consider poly ships separate to individual ones. You can have a separate team Weepy/Orpheus to team Weepy/Orpheus/Luchino.We will be allowing any interpretation of character gender/sexuality into the event.
Want to give Fiona a penis? Want to do the Transfem VicDrew fic of your dreams? Want to create propaganda for Galatea/Phillipe? By all means, all ends of this spectrum are allowed, and will be respected within the event. And if anyone gives you trouble for having that interpretation, please immediately come to a moderator about it.
However, please remember that outside of bonus rounds and extra content, all members of your team have to agree on a fic for main round submissions.
Posting Regulations
All content must be properly tagged and spoilered when posted.
Given that this is an 18+ event, we will be allowing explicit content. (Please note: Not all submitted content HAS to be 18+ or explicit.)
Please tag all fic’s on Ao3 properly. Failure to do so will result in a warning, and failure to update tags when asked with result in your fic being disqualified from the round you’re posting in.Post all content for your team on your teams main account!
This challenge will be adminstered via discord, with content posted to twitter. Each team will be expected to make a unique twitter page for their ship; Hunter participants will be given further guidelines on sign-up for what we expect team pages to look like. The main IDV Shipping Olympics Social Media page will be retweeting all content created for the event, and the easiest way to keep track of everything is to have it posted to a single page per team.Once the round is over, you may do whatever you’d like with your creation. You made it, afterall!Teams do not need their own Ao3 Pages, as you can credit multiple people to an Ao3 fic!
If you are unsure of how to do so, please contact a moderator and we will walk you through it.
Anti-Harassment and Anti-Fandom Wank policy.
What is Wank?
Anything inflammatory done to intentionally irritate, bother, or bait a reaction out of another user. Known by other parts of the internet as “Trolling.”What is Harassment?
Anything done while intentionally breaking a boundary someone else has set. If they do not consent to you engaging with them like you have been, have explicitly requested you do not, and you continue to do so, that is harassment.===What to do if you encounter wank or harassment
It has happened to all of us. You’re in a group chat, having a discussion about your favorite characters, and then there they are. Someone that's come into the conversation, seemingly only here to start a fight.First of all - Take a step back before you reply. Sometimes, the person genuinely didn’t mean any harm. It’s easy to read a disagreement as purposeful provocation. However, sometimes people are here just to spit in the fruit pie. In the case that something like this crops up, be it in a comment on twitter, in the discord, or on your submission, this is how we expect the situation to be handled. Please do NOT reply directly to the person. No snide remarks in the discord, no vague posts on your profile, no QRT to roast the comment. We’re trying to make an event like this as drama-free and comfortable as possible, and doing any of these is condoned by the moderation team.Inform someone in charge. Approach one of the moderators you’re comfortable with, or alternatively approach your team’s hunter and have them reach out to us. Message us on discord, or through twitter.
You may not get a reply back immediately! We’re all a little busy these days. If we haven’t replied to you by the end of the day even acknowledging the message, message another moderator and they’ll not only handle it, but reach out to the moderator who ignored your inquiry. And that’s it! Your work here is done. There’s no need to perpetuate the wank any further. Go back to enjoying the event with as little stress and drama, and leave the moderation team to work through the worst of it.Wank: How we will punish it.
Important note before we begin: All action taken by moderation is decided and voted on by all moderators involved within the event. If you receive a warning, this is because all moderators have come together, discussed the situation at hand, and decided this was the best path forward. No individual moderator is out to target you, and cannot do so under the system we have. If you feel a choice was made that was unfair, you may calmly and maturely approach us and talk to us about it.==Despite our best efforts, wank happens. It’s inevitable, and has been since the beginning of fandom. Misunderstandings with tone happen, and it is easy for things to get out of hand online. The first thing we will try and do is talk to everyone involved. Take a bit to step away, cool off, and stop the conversation. Was any harm actually intended? Did you misread the situation, and jump to a conclusion that wasn’t intended? Did the person think their comment came off kinder then it did? Everyone in this event is an adult, and will be expected to behave as such. And sometimes, all a situation needs for resolution is a good, honest conversation. However, sometimes it’s clear that someone was intending to cause harm. Sometimes, people get difficult. They refuse to cooperate, or are purposefully intending to start drama and in-fighting.In the case that this happens, our rule system works under a three tier warning system.Strike 1: Warning. Once a warning is given, what we do next depends on the nature of the warning. If it happens in the discord, we will mute you from the main discord for a few hours. If this happens on social media, we will ask that you delete any inflammatory comments.
Given that we cannot delete other people's tweets or reblogs off of threads. Likewise, we cannot delete other people's personal tweets or posts on their individual profiles. We can, however, disqualify you from the event. Refusal to cooperate within a warn will result in disqualification.Note: We will tell you explicitly if something is a warning. Not every conversation we approach you with will result in a warn. We will try to approach everything in good faith, however if it’s clear you’re trying to hide your harassment behind plausible deniability, we will move forward with our next step in moderation.Once you’ve been warned, we will make note of your name, and the of the nature of the warning behind the scenes.Strike 2: One Week Ban. The user persists past the warning, they will be banned for one week. They will not be allowed involved in anything outside of their main group chat, and the team’s leader will be informed of the ban. After the challenge is up, they will be allowed back within the event with the understanding that they will be closely watched.Strike 3: Full Out Ban. If, after that one week ban, the user continues the behavior that got them banned, we will disqualify the user from the event and take them off their team. The user has shown clear disinterest in following the rules, as well as a clear disinterest in what the spirit of the event is.
We don’t like wank. We especially don’t like harassment, and we believe that no one here does. Please work with us to keep this event moving as smoothly, comfortably, and as drama free as anyone involved can work to.Note two: A time might come up that someone does something worth immediate banning. Knowingly harassing users, spamming NSFW outside of the NSFW chat, ect. These occasions are rare, and hopefully the need never arises, however we remain within our rights to jump to an instant ban should the need occur. As a reminder - A single moderator does not have the permission or ability to do this, and if we (god forbid) have to do this, it is a result of a discussion involving not just the other moderators, but your team’s captain.
===
Anti-Wank Policy
No character hate or ship hate is allowed or tolerated in this event whatsoever. Posting hate comments on other teams fics will get you immediately disqualified from the event. We do not care about what people have historically posted on their public profiles or within the privacy of discord servers in the past regarding ships and characters. We are not going to dig to see if you’ve slandered a ship or character before. What we are asking is that, within the parameters of the event, you be polite and respectful about other ships and characters. If a ship or character is being discussed that makes you uncomfortable, it is your responsibility to leave the discussion, not the responsibility of other people within the chat to change the topic. We’ll let anyone who earnestly wants to participate in, but in the interest of building a welcoming and collaborative space, we will not be allowing those with a known history of harassment. Here’s our anti-harassment policy.Standards and expectations:It is not considered character hate to talk about technical criticism of the characters writing.Example of what is okay:
“I don’t think Andrew has the best writing in the game at the moment. While his deductions are strong, they don’t seem to understand the direction they want to go with him yet. So he’s not my favorite character, and I don’t like interacting with content about him, imo” Good, Okay, subjective opinion.Example of what is situationally okay:
“Andrew as a character makes me really uncomfortable, and I don’t like seeing art of him.” Okay if the conversation was already talking about general character preferences, not okay if you came into a conversation about AndLuca out of nowhere and offered this insight.Example of what is not okay under any circumstances:
“Andrew sucks as a character, I don’t understand how anyone can like it, and all of the content about him is gross, fetishistic yaoi bait.” Bad. Intended to judge and belittle the people who are a fan of the character. Explicitly rude.It is not considered ship hate to discuss PERSONAL PREFERENCES as to why you dislike a shipExample of what is okay:
“I don’t like Emma/Emily, so I don’t really interact with content about it.” Good, just explaining why you don’t interact with something. Can build discussion around comparing shipping preferences.Example of what is situationally okay: “EmmaEmily makes me really uncomfortable. I don’t like doctor/patient relationships, and the age gap is weird to me.” Same as the above Andrew example. Are you coming into an otherwise positive conversation where people are discussing emma/emily and offering this, or are you entering a conversation that's already about peoples personal opinion on ships?Example of what is not okay: “EmmaEmily is such a gross ship. Only pedophiles would be interested in it”
Once again. Bad. Intended to judge people who do enjoy it, and make reaching assumptions of a person's character for shipping it.We are allowing all interpretations of characters within this event!
On one hand, if all of your team agrees to it, that means you can submit the trans-fem Joscarl fic of your dreams to the main round.Example of what is situationally okay: “I headcanon Galatea as a lesbian between I feel like the her deductions and likes/dislikes heavily imply it.”
Example of what is not okay: “Can you imagine shipping Galatea with a man? She’s clearly a lesbian, you’d have to be so braindead not to see that.”Remember! Defend your headcanon, do not attack theirs! Do not be rude or cruel.Do not participate in this event if you do not believe you can maturely handle being in an environment where ships and characters you actively dislike are being discussed. Likewise, do not join this event if you can’t handle interpretations different to your own. The fun of this event is seeing the wealth of different ways characters can be drawn and written.
